In this series, I answer YOUR public speaking questions, randomly pulled out of a fishbowl! I have a countdown timer so need to answer in 50 seconds or less!
Today’s answer:
Firstly, I would say the word rehearse suggests that it’s like acting… or you’re playing a role, and it’s not actually authentic.
So I would change the word rehearse for plan or prepare because in order to actually deliver a message, authentically in public speaking, we need to be truly connected and passionate about what we’re actually sharing. Because that’s what people resonate with in public speaking.
The best way to plan or prepare is…
- Know your content. Whether you’re an expert, in something or passionate about something, the more you know it, the less you need to actually think about it because it just becomes part of you.
- Plan and prepare by practising in front of the camera. Look at what works, look at what you love, and do more of that next time.
